Another Viper TJ
So I decided to build another Viper TJ, and this time this one is mine! I chose
an impact orange 2006 Unlimited as the starting point for this one. I will be using
another 8.3 litre motor out of an SRT10 pickup. It will have an automatic trans
and a Rubicon 4 to 1 transfer case. I will be making my own Dana 60’s front and
rear and I will be running the very large Viper brakes. 20 or 22” wheels will have
to be used. Suspension will be the tried and trusty RE longarm at 6.5 inches. I
already have the jeep torn apart and plan on wheeling this machine at Moab.

I also decided to use a Gen Right fuel tank for the Viper TJ. These tanks are the
best you can buy. Made out of aluminum, fully skid plated, and has enough clearance
to fit a Dana 60 in the back with no rubbing. The quality of this tank is unreal.
Gen Right has several styles of tanks to fit TJ's depending on what type of clearance
you need and how far you want to stretch your wheelbase.
Currie Enterprises provided me with one of their swingaway bumpers and a set of
" Tail Bones " . The tailbones will protect the rear corners when coming down off
of obstacles or rock ledges. All nice products that installed with no issues.

The Viper TJ is done and it looks great! I finished installing the SRT10 brakes
to help fill up those 20" wheels and also to give the beast some additional stopping
power. So here is how it was built---8.3 litre Viper motor, 48RE auto transmission,
39" Swamper Iroks, American Racing Cartel wheels, Currie Iron Jock axles with 5.38
gears, Detroit locker front and ARB rear. Of course I used 35 spline axle shafts.
Tom Woods polished and clearcoated driveshafts, Fab Fours bumpers, Currie rocker
guards and a louvered hood. The exhaust was built using 3" mandrel bent stainless
and wrapped to try and keep the heat transfer down. The winch is a Warn 9.5 XP and
it is set up with ORO winch rope. I also installed an Off Road Only Sway loc front
sway bar. An easy flip of the switch on the dash and the sway bar unlocks to the
lighter off road rate. This is a very cool item. This jeep drives perfect and is
a blast to drive. Now if I can just keep those pesky magazine editors away from
it.
