Custom Corvette
03/26/06
I started a new project last month. We are building a 1962 prostreet Corvette. When
we are done we will have a 750 horse big block powered monster. The rear frame rails
will be moved in to fit big M&H Racemasters inside the rear fender wells. A narrowed
Dana 60 sprung with coilovers will reside in the rear. Up front the stock Corvette
front will be replace with a complete front coilover suspension and steering by
Jim Meyer. Jim Meyer builds some nice stuff and is super helpful on the phone. So
first we need to get the body off of the frame and strip the car down as it will
also be getting painted silver.--

The carb will need to protrude thru the hood on the vette so a cowl induction scoop
needs to be installed. The raised ribs are cut off to make a flat surface for the
scoop to attach to. The scoop is attached with a combination of fiberglass epoxy
and cloth and resin. Now the finished body work can be done.
After the frame is out we sandblasted and painted it. Then I set up the rear coilovers
on the Dana 60. The plan is to have this car " in the weeds" so to speak. The coilover
setup is fun to do and looks nice when you are done. We also removed the front inner
fenders in order to make room for the custom headers that will be installed on the
555 ci big block.
The Jim Meyer has been assembled and installed. This is some nice stuff. All top
notch components right down to the QA1 shocks. We decided to paint the frame and
suspension components silver as well. The car is going to handle nice too with rack
and pinion steering. The firewall was painted as well in order to be ready for the
motor install.
We rolled the frame back under the body and set it down installing new body mounts
and pads at the same time. The car has the stance we were looking for. It will sit
even lower than this as right now it has no motor in it. So now we will roll it
around to the paint shop and get to work on that monster motor.

Motor build time!
We started to assemble the 555ci big block for the Corvette. This beast has a Big
M Dart block, RHS heads, Edelbrock intake, Demon carb, MSD starter and distributor,
hand fabbed oil pan and valve covers, ARP throughout and everything internal built
with nothing but the best. 700 horse on pump gas. That should make a 2000 pound
car move pretty quick. We will be mating it up to a built powerglide for motivation.

The corvette is getting paint right now but here is a shot of the motor and Powerglide
tranny bolted together and ready to drop in. Hopefully next week I will have shots
of the painted car.

Ok so maybe its not next week but at least this year. Things got busy so the vette
project got pushed off to the side for awhile. It will not be too much longer now
and this beast will run. A lot of really nice parts have been put on this car. The
under dash wiring is being installed right now.

The 1962 Corvette is done. We had the interior done at Justtens in Prior Lake MN.
He did a fabulous job. The car is stunning in appearance.--
