Project Rubicon Liberty Diesel swap
11/08/05
So I am finally getting around to doing the 2.8 Liberty diesel installation in my
new Wrangler. I picked up a silver 2006 Rubicon Unlimited that we tore apart with
3 miles on it. We even trailered it from the dealer to the shop. Here is the shot
of the new motor we found which also has no miles on it. I am gathering all of the
parts to finish the swap and also will be testing a prototype chip from one of the
major diesel performance manufacturers on this one. The motor will be going in soon--

The motor mounts have been built and now the motor is installed. We fabbed the frame
mounts from 1/4 " steel plate and used the factory Jeep rubber mount that are used
on the Liberty. It is a very clean installation. A Rubicon Express longarm kit was
also installed to make enough room for the engine as the factory front upper control
arm mounts interfered with the accessories on the front lower of the engine. The
next item to figure out will be radiator and intercooler, along with the fuel system
and wiring. our motor mounts will be available for purchase as well for $259.00
a pair.

The motor mounts have been built and the motor and transmission have been installed.
I included some close up shots of the motor mounts which mounted the motor up very
solid. The RE long arm is installed and motor clearance is not an issue now. Now
the front clip will be put on and radiator and intercooler will be fitted. The wiring
harness is still being worked on.

Here are some fresh photos of the 2.8 CRD that we put in the 2006 Rubicon. This looks as about as factory as it gets. I will have this one out in Moab this year if it does not sell first. This was a great install.
