Project 5.7 hemi install

11/06/05

We just started on our first 5.7 hemi install in a TJ. We will be using the Teraflex components and the motor is out of a 2004 Dodge pickup. We will also be using the 5 speed automatic transmission. Teraflex supplies the motor mounts, skid plate, tranny mount, radiator and a few other small items. The motor is being installed in a 2001 TJ that has a 3" lift. Progress so far shows we have installed the motor mounts, set the motor in place and put in the skidplate. The wiring harness has been sent to Tera for modification. More photos will be coming as soon as the wiring harness arrives.----

We finally got the wiring harness back. The harness looks to be high quality and it installed without any issues. The new computer still needs to be programmed and that has to be done at the dealer. Before that can be done we need to have the exhaust system built. Also shown here is the Hemi belly up skidplate we got from Teraflex.

We upgraded the 2001 TJ to a 2005 TJ fuel tank, module, fuel lines and NVLD system. The main part of the NVLD system mounts below the right rear taillight and consists of a new canister, hoses and module. Some custom mounting bracketry needs to be made up and set up of the system is not to difficult. If you do not do these upgrades you will get a check engine light. We also installed the 2005 Grand Cherokee drive by wire accelerator pedal assembly. Installation of this was made easy using the bracket supplied by Teraflex. Now all the wiring is complete as well as the fuel system. Next we will see if it runs

The wiring was a success and the motor runs great. The engine computer was sent to New York for reprogramming. Squier was able to flash the new pcm with the TJ's vin code and mileage. All that was left after that was to "learn " the drive by wire accelerator and the transmission shift programming using a factory DRB scan tool. This motor has some power. Under full throttle it revs right up to 5 grand and shifts into every gear. The aluminum raditor kept the temp right 210 degrees just like it should. I could not resist adding the Hemi badges to both fenders. This was definitely a fun swap but a little pricey. Figure on spending about 15 grand by the time you get done.
